The event is nevertheless timed and riders must maintain an average speed of between 15- and 30 kilometres per hour. You are given a control card with specified control points en route where your progress is signed off ensuring the average speed is kept and the route is covered.
At the start you get a control card where the time is noted and signed. Your card is then stamped at each control to show that the route has been completed and the average speed has been maintained. You may ride alone or in groups; preselected or in informal groups which may come together informally and disperse from time to time. For security reasons the organisers encourage you to ride in a group, en route you need to ensure that your bike in good riding condition.
